Honoring Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month

October is recognized as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, a time to acknowledge the heartbreaking reality that far too many families face—the loss of a pregnancy, stillbirth, or infant. While these losses are deeply personal, they are also profoundly common, yet often remain unspoken due to stigma, silence, or fear of misunderstanding.

Recognizing this month is about more than raising awareness; it’s about validating grief and creating space for healing. For many parents, the loss of a child—whether during pregnancy or shortly after birth—represents a future rewritten, a love that endures, and a story that feels unfinished. By acknowledging this pain, we affirm that every life, no matter how brief, matters.

Too often, families feel they must suffer in silence. Friends and loved ones may not know what to say, leaving parents feeling isolated in their grief. Yet healing begins when silence is broken. Support, compassion, and community allow grieving families to process their loss, honor their babies, and take steps forward with resilience and hope.

To shed light on this important topic, Dr. U. Davis is hosting a support group on October 22 at 6:30 p.m. inside the Nile Women’s Health Care Roswell office. This gathering will provide a safe, supportive space for those who have experienced loss to share their stories, connect with others, and find comfort in community.

This month reminds us that no one should have to grieve alone. By recognizing Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, we honor the babies who are gone too soon, support the families who love them, and help build a culture of openness and compassion.
